This dietary guideline is based on the Ayurvedic approach to reducing inflammation within the body. (please visit the Ayurvedic page for more info) The diet, if followed correctly, can help to create a more alkaline friendly environment within the digestive system. By increasing the alkaline levels within the body, it can help to reduce bloating, belching and flatulence. It may also help with pacifying a Crohn's & colitis flare up, reducing the acidity levels which can aid ulcers to heal.
Inflammation is a natural immune response caused when the body sends white blood cells to an area that requires healing. Inflammation can occur within our bodies due to poor diet, stress, lack of sleep, toxins and hormones.
Our bodies need an alkaline pH for good health. Too many acidic foods & drinks (alcohol,red meat, processed foods, fatty foods, pastries, cakes, dairy, refined sugars, caffeine, chocolate, salty foods) and habits (stress and lack of sleep) weaken our immune system & deplete our energy levels, which has a negative impact on our digestion.
These dietary guidelines will need to be followed according to your current tummy status (weak to strong digestion). If your having regular flare ups than you need to be more strict & disciplined with the diet (but remember once things calm down then you can step out of the framework). If your flare ups are more irregular then you need to judge how strict you need to be. Remember a lot of this is going to be experimental and you need to create mindfulness and learn to be more in tune with your digestion. As a rule of thumb, this should be the dietary framework you work with most of the time.

KEEP A DIGESTION DIARY – MAKE NOTES OF WHAT YOU HAVE EATEN, ABOUT YOUR BOWEL MOVEMENTS AND QUALITY OF YOUR STOOLS (SOFT, HARD, ANY BLOOD). THIS WILL REALLY HELP GIVE YOU A BETTER UNDERSTANDING OF YOUR DIGESTION. IT IS IMPORTANT BE OPEN WITH YOURSELF.
